These can be used in small groups, missional communities, or any other structure of small groups as well as used in natural organic church planting movements. The leader learns to share this with another person and ask them to share with someone else. Obedience to God through obedience to the Word must be genuine. You can begin by doing 3 column studies as your personal devotion. The leader should only lead the first one or two studies before people begin to adopt it as a natural part of the rhythms of their life. This means that the Bible is the authority for the group. The Bible Discovery Method/Study is not preaching or teaching, but a Bible based discussion which seeks to help the reader apply what they are learning as opposed to learning just for the sake of information alone. These two methods and materials have largely been used in missionary church planting movements due to the ease of use, no additional resources needed, and the ability to repeat the process to create a naturally reproductive system of helping people find and follow God. A new spiritual reality affects us-and helps us to our God-given purpose. FOLLOWING JESUS - As we begin following Jesus, a whole new world opens up to us called the Kingdom of God. When you facilitate a DBS, you are essentially co-leading with God’s Spirit, who is the major player in guiding seekers toward Jesus. A DBS is based on the belief that God’s word is powerful (Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16) and that God’s Spirit is faithful to lead us into all truth (John 16:13). A discovery group is a non- threatening way to start discipling someone even before they become a believer. Discovery groups begin with a person of peace (a spiritual seeker) and include that person’s family, friends, or network of social relationships-whoever they can invite to explore with them.Ī Discovery Bible Study is an opportunity for people to discover first-hand what the Bible says about God, about people, and what it means to follow Jesus. ![]() And a Discovery Bible Study (DBS, or sometimes just a “discovery group” for short) is a great way to do that.
